I will guide students through the minefield of outdoor painting.  I am a generous tutor who works hard to keep my students confident when painting outside. I do not view a painting that falls short of expectation as a failure but rather chooses to describe this work as a step towards understanding and future improvement.

When tutoring, I encourages my students to paint according to their personality, whilst still understanding that the colours of the landscape of the day will be the making of the painting.  I teaches the importance of a direct approach to paint application and how to find a pleasing composition in the big landscape.

My own outdoor paintings reflect my personal relationship with the environment, and show distinctive technique, colour and design. I feed on the atmosphere and light of the day and firmly believes that this connection creates fresh, vigorous paintings. I wants my viewer “to smell and feel the captured moment”.

I am a Multi award winning artist, and Fellow of the Australian Guild of Realist Artists.  Winner Australian Art Excellence Award Gold Medallion 2010, Best Painting St Kevin’s Art Show 2009 and winner of Deans Oil Award Camberwell Rotary Art Show 2009.  Popular workshop tutor, judge and demonstrator.

I have painted outdoors for many years and have learned to interpret the landscape in all its moods and seasons. Painting trips have been an important base for my development. There is so much to learn about a given subject surrounded by other artists who all tackle their paintings from completely different perspectives. I paint outdoors at ever opportunity.

The workshops and demonstrations that I offer can be tailor made to suit your society or groups needs but I usually find that the workshops, as listed adequately fill most needs. Two day hands on workshops with a demonstration to begin with and an appraisal session on the last afternoon seem to profit most students the best. But of course that is up to you.

I was tutored in the field of portraiture and spent 5 years intensively studying this area. My studies began with tonal realism and progressed into my own interpretation of this style. I have won many awards for my portrait and still life work in oil and pastel and my life drawings, character studies of entertainers and costumed people have been rewarded on numerous occasions
